I am an experienced impact investor and social entrepreneur, having invested in start up social enterprises in the UK, Europe and Asia for a decade. I am a passionate advocate of inclusive and sustainable livelihood projects as means to eradicate abject rural poverty. I personally invest as an angel in small businesses and startups, and take up advisory roles in NGOs and larger organisations to help steer their strategy to optimise social and environmental impact.
Business, Finance, Good Food and Travel
My extensive experience in business and finance and my passion for good food and immersive travel, along with my personal story, underpin everything I do. I became an investment banker in the City of London in my 20s; turned hotel investment and management consultant in my 30s; and in my 40s I decided to invest my own capital as an angel as well as co-founding several startups with the mission to empower and connect the rural poor.
My personal portfolio consists of pioneering social enterprises in the UK, Europe and Southeast Asia, mainly in food production/innovation including healthy superfood and nutraceuticals, agri-tourism and tech.
Investment Philosophy and Rural Communities
My investment philosophy is driven by my background and my personal mission to help stem migration from rural communities to crowded cities or abroad. I believe that if we direct more capital to businesses that create sustainable livelihoods in remote communities and enable the locals to live their dreams and aspirations without leaving their homes and families, many of the social and environmental challenges we face today could be avoided, if not eradicated.
My vision is to be an inspiration and a conduit for change in every way I can, whilst being compassionate to others and true to myself. I am driven by my passion to help others navigate what often is a challenging journey to effect positive change in our inner and outer world.
My professional background, my personal values and vision guide how I view investment and use my capital. The ‘triple bottom line’ approach in impact investing is the foundation of my investment philosophy and my choices of impact-driven enterprises that I have supported as an angel investor, mentor and leader. Decades in investment banking and global strategic consulting have given me deeper insight and perspective on how capital can drive positive social and environmental change within an organisation.
